Something about the fallFall is the academic year's new beginning. Everyone starts fresh, and the possibilities are endless. Just take a look at the rich variety of courses Florida Community College offers. The scope is mind-boggling. In my own area of mass communications and English, the courses offer some exciting possibilities. The print newspaper industry, of course, is going through either its death throes or its rebirth. Whichever, it's the most significant change in traditional media since the advent of television more than a half century ago. We'll look at some of the issues and ideas. Anyway, here's the course lineup: Technical report writing Students preparing for careers in technical areas often need this course in technical writing. It offers a different way of looking at putting words on paper: it's about as far from meandering essays as you can get get; it's straight-forward and to the point all the way.ENC2210, Technical Report Writing. Thinking about the mass media? We offer three mass media courses at Florida Community College. They prepare you for the work you will encounter when you transfer to an upper division school to finish your bachelor's degree in mass communications. The two writing courses also give you an introduction to freelancing and publishing your work.MMC1000, Intro to Mass Communications MMC 2100, Writing for Mass Communications JOU 2100, Newspaper Reporting and Writing. For information on any of these, send me an e-mail. A great careerLike to write? Curious about people and the things they say and do? Consider some area of the mass media for your career. If you're interested in sales or promotions, consider advertising and public relations. If you want to help people understand what's going on in their communities, consider print journalism or broadcast journalism. No matter what the medium--paper, the Internet, radio, or television--people will always need someone to tell them what's going on. I thoroughly enjoy thinking about and talking about these areas. So give me a call. Or drop me a note. |
