This skink is prominent in Northern Florida and the Gulf states.
Broad-headed Skinks consume large numbers of wasp pupa and other insects. The wasp stings do not penetrate the hard bony scales.
It has a wide head, a dark brown body, and a dorsolateral stripe along its 4th scale row. The adult males have a very large reddish-orange head and blue tail.
