“By now you have heard all the reasons why or why not to vote for union representation. I cannot add to the list. So let me try a different tack.

I am voting YES for a variety of reasons. But I am not casting my YES vote because I am dissatisfied with any faculty member or group. On the contrary, I believe the faculty who have worked to represent all of our interests have done a remarkable job in a most difficult situation.

I am not casting my YES vote because I think the day after will bring instantaneous changes and success. No, I have worked in a union situation before and disagreements abounded—but so did collegiality. The two do not have to be mutually exclusive.

And I am not casting my YES vote because I am anti-administration. Many fine administrators want what we want: change that will be positive for the College, faculty and our students.

I am voting YES because the union can be a catalyst for that change.”
