"We Can Work Together"

I'm voting "yes" on Apr. 3-4 for some simple reasons.

First, since I've been department chair during three rotations on our campus, I know that we can work well with the administration to help operate the college. I also know the times when things have gone awry or weren't followed through simply because the bureaucracy seemed to stumble over its own feet. At those times, it seemed simpler to me to have put specifics into a formal contract. That way, the contract could be implemented and the administrative stumbles could be avoided or at least diminished.

Second, I was heartened to read that Dr. Wallace did not want another Miami-Dade at FCCJ, with the bitterness that the MDCC president and others engaged in. For example, he has said that he would not shut down the faculty senate after the election, as the MDCC president did.

The FCCJ campaign has been vigorously fought, but each side has shown good sportsmanship and a lack of rancor or divisiveness. I'm looking for the FCCJ-style civility to be in place when we have formal bargaining.
