Faculty First For Student Success: Vote Yes!
A vote for collective bargaining is the only way Faculty at FCCJ will be heard, and the needs of our students successfully met. We the faculty, are the ones who engage students. It is we who teach, advise, support and evaluate their knowledge and proficiency. But we are being taken for granted, because we are not organized and have no voice to represent our true interests.
One definition of politics is "who gets what, when, and how." We don't get very much because the governance system at FCCJ is stacked against professors, against quality education (any institution that requires six classes in a semester for a college education is not concerned with quality), and ultimately against student success.
Students succeed when they learn, and when they have invigorated and knowledgeable instruction. Who knows better how to deliver the goods than faculty? And we deliver the goods everyday. Some in our administration, as well some faculty, would have us believe that our rewards await us in heaven. We can do better.
Student success is bandied about all around the college. But the real champions of that cause are faculty who are committed to our students, and who want quality education to be the cornerstone of our college.
We must protect our interests and provide our students with the opportunity for success. There is no middle ground.
