About Gary Hill

I teach at the South Campus of Florida Community College at Jacksonville.  The South Campus is located about 8 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.  The picture at the top of my home page was taken at Jacksonville Beach on a pleasant day in March.

Primarily my teaching responsibilites include Microbiology (MCB 2010C) and Human Anatomy and Physiology (BSC 2085C and BSC 2086C).  To get an idea of course content and grade determination for these courses you can check the sample syllabi given above.  I have also taught Life in Its Biological Environment (BSC 1005), a biology course for nonmajors, and the accompanying Biology Laboratory (BSC 1005L) which is a separate two-hour lab course.

A famous philosopher/scientist once wrote "Chance favors the prepared mind."  Having an education helps you stack the deck in your favor.  An education is one of the few things that can't be taken from you.  You can have your car repossessed, lose your credit cards, have your money stolen, but nobody can take your education away.  A college degree definitely increases your chances of getting ahead in the world.  It also gives you a greater appreciation for everything around you.  In my courses I hope to instill in you an interest in the science discipline, and help you develop a "prepared mind" that will enable you to succeed in the career you've chosen.
