Please include your full name and the answers in the body of an e-mail message
with the Lesson number in the subject line
of an email addressed to me at JJohnson@fccj.org.
Exercise 3 is worth a total of 7 points.
- (1 point) Broadening a topic - Describe how you would change
the following search: You want to do research on migraines, but you are
not finding enough information. List both a Boolean phrase you could use,
and a broader term you could use to broaden your search.
- (1 point) Narrowing a topic - You want some information on
Vitamin E and its potential benefits in preventing heart attacks. What are
the key terms or words for this topic? What Boolean operator would you use
to combine the key terms?
- (2 points) Think of a research question which interests you, and
answer the following questions: What is the search topic? What are the key
terms used to search for information on the topic? What are some other
related terms?
- (3 points) Log into EBSCOhost's Academic
Search Elite. (Remember that your SS# is your Borrower ID.) Use your
own research question or area of interest to you to find at least one
full-text article. Try to use as many of the search strategies from this
lesson as possible. Write your search statement that you used to find the
article. Also, email a copy of the article to me by making it an
attachment to your email or by
copying and pasting it into your email.
