Etiquette

Do not disturb the class.

No talking in lecture.

If you arrive late, come in to class quietly and with the least commotion as possible.  You will have to wait for any items handed out at the beginning of class.

If you miss all or part of a lecture, you are responsible for getting the material missed from another student apart from class time.

If you are sick, there are things you can do to keep from disturbing the class:

1.   Bring hard candy

2.   Bring Kleenex

3.   Bring disinfecting products as you see fit.

Keep cell phones and beepers quiet.

Do not rummage around the instructor's desk.

If the intructor is late, when can the students leave?  Officially, you can not leave until the end of the class.  In reality, if I am 10 minutes late, identify one student to check my office and the check with the department office (Cindy Hoffer in c-100).  After 25 minutes, I am probably not going to show up.

How late can a student be to an exam?  Typically, I will let a student begin an exam as long as no other student has left and the exam can be reasonably completed in the time remaining.

Cheating

FCCJ definition:  Cheating is defined as the giving or taking of any information or material with the intent of wrongfully aiding oneself or another in academic work considered in the determination of a course grade or the outcome of a standardized assessment.

No talking or sharing of materials during a test.

Using a calculator with unauthorized notes or programs is cheating.

Plagiarism

FCCJ definition:  Plagiarism is defined as the act of stealing or passing off as one’s own work the words, ideas or conclusions of another as if the work submitted were the product of one’s own thinking rather than an idea or product derived from another source.

Although you work in pairs, you cannot turn in the same lab report. There are techniques to avoid this.

·     Although you can discuss your ideas and results with others, write your reports alone. This should insure that the words in your report are your own.

·     Make sure that you understand everything in your report.
