WELCOME TO EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE LABORATORY (GLY1001L)
Earth and Space Science Laboratory is the study of the mineral, rocks, maps and weather phenomena.
Testing: The purpose of testing is to determine how much material the students are learning from the class. Thus, the test questions will not be tricky. The questions will be multiple choice, for rocks and minerals, and short answer and essay for maps. There will be two 100 point major tests. The first test must be taken at an approved location that will be given on the Bulletin Board within the class. Those students that live more than 100 miles from Jacksonville contact the instructor by email to discuss this further. There is one quiz that must be taken before starting the class material. It is worth 10 points that will be considered extra points in the class.
Term Paper (100 points): There will be a term paper that will be due on the last day of the 15th week of class. It will consist of a spreadsheet of the weather for the month assigned ( Fall term-October, Spring term-February, Summer term-June), two graphs and a discussion of the data. Details for the paper can be found in the Laboratory Manual on page 121.
Assignments: There will be ten 20 point assignments. These will not require much time, but must be completed each week. These assignments consist of completing the questions found in the laboratory book. The laboratory manual will be turned in to Dr. Moody at the time of the final test, the last day of the 15th week or class.
Points: There are 400 points possible in the class: (Both tests must be taken and passed,>60%, to pass the class).

Technical Requirements: Each student must have access to a computer that can access the internet, a word processing software package that at least contains word processing and spreadsheet capabilities (Word/Excel or Word Perfect/Lotus) and e-mail access that you can receive and send attachments. The student must also know how to use the equipment. A printer that is at least laser quality will also be needed.
Learning Online: Each student will be required to read and study all text materials and study all lecture materials each week. There will be suggested Internet work that will enhance your understanding of each subject covered for the student to complete each week. Assignments will be due in the instructor's hands by the end of week 15, along with the lab book, test 2 and the paper. Late papers will not be accepted. You will want to, and be expected to, communicate with other students and Dr. Moody in the chat room on the WebCT class site. Chat room is not required-it is for the benefit of the student. E-mail can also be sent in-house to other students in the class. Dr. Moody will send, by e-mail, instructions on how to navigate the WebCT site to all students that have registered and paid for the class.

FCCJ Policy: Students with an entering date of 1997 or later may have only three attempts per college credit course including the original grade, repeat grades, and withdrawals at any point in the semester. A fourth attempt may be allowed only through established institutional procedures. The student will be permitted a maximum of two withdrawals per college credit course. A student may withdraw without academic penalty from any course be the withdrawal deadline for the semester. Withdrawals after that date would be granted only through established institutional procedures. Upon the third attempt at a course, the student will not be permitted to withdraw and will receive a grade for that course. A student cannot repeat a course when a grade of A, B or C has been earned.
Beginning fall semester, 1997, according to guidelines established by Florida HB 1545, all students may enroll in a specific college credit course only twice at the regular tuition rate. If the first two attempts are unsuccessful (all grades will count as an attempt, including audit, IW, AW, W, NP, F and D), the third time a student enrolls in the course he/she must pay the full cost of instruction. This cost is equivalent to the out-of-state.
